Each year we look for someone who has made sure that the memory of September 11, 2001 is kept alive in the hearts and minds of fellow citizens. This year we found someone in our “own back yard.”
For the past 9 years, Rose Marie Poveromo has organized and created a night of Remembrance for her fellow citizens in Astoria, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and Long Island City. We gather as friends and neighbors to remember the lives lost, those 2,750 people who died at the Twin Tower site on September 11, 2001. We gather each year to feel connected with each other as we solemnly light our candles and honor all the rescue workers from the FDNY, NYPD and the PAPD and the civilians who died because of hatred. We could not think of a better person to honor this year.
Rose Marie has made sure that the light of love, hope and love keeps burning brightly.
Rose Marie has been our friend and someone who we greatly admire. Each year she touches many hearts with this beautiful tribute.
Thank you Rose Marie. Your humiity, kindness and determination in so many things is an inspiration to us all.
