Guantanamo Bay is a U.S. detainment camp located in Cuba. It is a place that holds prisoners that have been captured for terrorist attacks and it keeps them behind bars until a trial is set for them. In 2008, President Barrack Obama said that he was going to close this camp and relocate it somewhere in the United States. It is a good idea to keep the base open and in its present location for different reasons. One reason is that the U.S. would be much safer if this facility is kept in Guantanamo Bay. Another reason is that if it remains where it is, chances of escape are more slim than if it were somewhere in the states. Last of all, it would cost millions of dollars for local and state government to relocate and maintain a new prison.

If the prison were moved somewhere within the U.S. it would put the U.S. citizens in danger. If there were to be an escape plan from another country to get their prisoner out, it would hurt the surrounding areas and people. Its present location is a bit more remote than where they are planning to move it to. We have to remember that these people are dangerous and so are their friends who might help them escape.

Keeping the base open in Guantanamo Bay limits the chances of prisoner escape because of its location. It is surrounded by ocean. Even if it were to happen that a prisoner were to escape, it would not harm an American citizen living in the U.S. If it were on the mainland though and a prisoner were to escape, it would put an American citizen in danger more than if it were in Guantanamo.

If the prison were to be moved to another location, it would take more money out from our economy. It would cost the local and state government millions of dollars to move them to another facility and to take care of it, as far as cleaning it, providing it with power and energy and security. An adequate amount of time should be allowed for lawyers to gather enough information to prosecute the detainees. If in that maximum set amount of time they have not found enough evidence to bring the prisoner’s case to court, the U.S. should release the prisoners and allow them to go back to their country. This agreement of the court should be honored by the U.S.

In conclusion, the Guantanamo Bay detention camp should remain open. Its location is ideal because it is away from the U.S. It has been an existing facility for many years and it serves its purpose. The location of the camp does not have an effect of the treatment of the prisoners in it. Whether a prisoner is treated well, or poorly inside the camp, does not depend on its location. So why spend more money for something that already exists?

My name is Andreas Tsihlas and I am 10 years old. I am a fifth grade student in I.S.122Q. I really like being in this school. It has a large schoolyard with a handball court and lots of space to play many games. It has two gymnasiums and it’s pretty neat that the larger one is located between two floors. My teachers are very helpful, nice and knowledgeable.

I have many different interests in school. I like to read, write and do math. I especially like science, though. I am always learning new things by experimenting with hands on materials. My teacher shows us great health videos. I can really connect to them.

In my spare time, there are many things that I love to do. I love to read adventure and mystery books such as The Lightning Thief Series and the 39 Clues Series. The characters get to roam around the world freely and this is something that I would also like to do. Another thing I absolutely enjoy is helping my mother cook whenever I can. She lets me baste the ribs with barbecue sauce and sprinkle oregano on the steaks. My father always shows me how to make his secret tomato sauce. When the weather is nice, I ride my bike in the park with my brother. I like to watch Man vs.Food. Adam Richman, the host, takes on different food challenges. He has to eat a certain amount of food in a time limit. These foods can be very spicy or in very large portions.

When I grow up I would like to become a chef. I like to watch people cook. I think that I can learn a lot by watching others. It’s also fun to mix different ingredients to finally make a delicious meal. I would like to open a Greek restaurant and have people try my cooking. I think they will be happy.

My family is very important to me. My mother and father always push me to succeed in everything. I have a brother, Nikolas and my sister, Gabriella. We have a lot of fun together. We are always jumping in the car and going places. We like to ride out to the Hamptons for lunch, visit relatives, and go shopping. My family has always been there to help me with everything. Whenever I am feeling down they are there to cheer me up. Family is everything to me.
